I started writing my first major research paper at the beginning
of last year by organizing materials on the subject I’d chosen. After that, I
created an outline and began drafting my paper from there. I mostly use logos
when I write, because I’m most comfortable with that, although I have used
ethos as well.
I actually enjoyed writing that research paper.
Usually the
work we are assigned in my English classes revolves around a book we read. I
probably did not enjoy the book and therefore did not enjoy the paper. Especially
because my teacher sophomore year graded very harshly, taking off ten points
for “word choice.”
Normally I feel like the writing that we have assigned to us
in high school can’t possibly reflect our actual skill at composition since the
subject matter is usually so dull.
I really love your opinion on essays. I agree that the topic can be extremely limiting to the content of an essay. I mean if you absolutely hated reading a certain book, then why on earth would you want to spend three weeks writing an extensive paper on it? Your heart isn't in it and it really does affect the content of your essays. I wish teachers would give different options for essays that appeal to different people. p.s. I hope you get better sweet girl!
ReplyDeleteI think that the harshness of your sophomore teacher probably helped you, even though it was probably difficult. I am definitely interested to hear more about your research papers, since my school hasn't done these, I will do them next year. I can tell that you're a very good student by this post, and I admire you very much for that.
