Experience At Six Flags

Where can I start? Going to Six Flags had to be my favorite highlight of the program, hands down! Since they took away Six Flags from Houston in 2005, I haven't been there since! It was amazing recognizing rides that I wish I could have ridden when I was younger. I only rode one roller coaster, I can't remember the name, but that was the scariest thing I have ever did in my life. It would flip you upside down and sideways! I thought I was going to die! I did one more short ride, which was not scary at all then proceeded to the water park. Although I did hit my head on the closed in slide, I had an amazing time. Various students helped me out and were just amazing, I still appreciate it to this day. After all this, I ate my first funnel cake and got very addicted. It took everything I had not to buy another one because I was trying to save money. Overall, it was a really amazing day and I thank SSA for taking us there!

Blog 4: Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed the Summers Scholars Academy at TLU. It was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget. I met so many amazing students and will miss them all. Every time I listen to something or hear about something, it reminds me of each and every one. I shared so many memories with so many different people that it's too many to describe on here. I'm going to miss this summer program so much. It's only been 2 days and I miss it so much! I feel like this journey will affect me very positively by making me even more motivated than I already am. I hope I get to see everyone again someday. See you guys later. :)

Blog No. 4 To The Very End: Final Thoughts

Summer Scholars Academy was a lot more awesome than I had expected. I learned a lot about PCR and got to do a lot more hands-on work in 'DNA and You' with Dr. Bob Jonas. I thought it was cool how we got to do a lot more involved work than we were typically allowed to do in high school, and learn new, college-level information. I also feel that I learned and improved more in the two weeks I spent in Professor Bost's class than I had in the years since learning to write speed essays. I really liked the idea of free-writing and found it to be very releasing. I enjoyed the photographic essay quite a bit as well (I think it was mostly because I got to demonstrate my art skills in it too.) It was unlike anything I ever did in any English or writing class, and was a unique experience. These experiences taught me a lot more about what college will be like, and I have had one of the greatest learning experiences here at Summer Scholars Academy. It will motivate me to work hard and persevere through the upcoming school year in the fall, by looking forward to going to college. It will help me work through my tough homework loads knowing that I've gone through worse homework-hardships while here at Summer Scholar's Academy, and quite frankly, I made it out alive and a lot stronger and smarter than I was before. I really got to know a lot of people and it was really great to feel part of a community like the Summer Scholar's Academy. I'll never forget the friends I made here.
Hi everybody i cant believe this is my last post i am really and truley going to miss you guys with all my heart. Being here at SSA it has taught me to be better prepared for life and living.Although, living on your own is not easy it requires much more than sleeping in, going at your own pace, and having fun with your friends all the time. SSA gave me a higher percentage rate of becoming a young adult and giving me that college feeling. Dr.Shao my movie maker media class he has helped me step by step and he has been very supportive and i couldnt ask for anything better than that. Professor Bost has been a sweetheart and he was always using big words (i guess that means i need to study my dictonary) but it has made me use my brain alot. Its a good feeling and i loved every second of it!!! PS. Except for the SOOOOOO MUCH HOMEWORK

6 Flags i absoulutely loved 6 Flags and it was very much needed a VACATION that has relax me for all the writing hahaha jk it just made me want to go back some time soon. I love every last ride i could get my hands on and loved how before every ride we all said "TURN UP". oMG I AM GOING TO MISS YOU GUYS SOOOO MUCH yall have became a big part of my heart and i couldnt ask for anything better. Have a Great Summer!!!

Summer Scholarship Academy and Six Flags Fiesta Texas!

Hey, y'all! This is my last blog post here! I'm going to be blunt: I learned a lot from Summer Scholarship Academy. My professors were very attentive with their students (it's an advantage because of the miniscule-sized classes). My Psychology professor, Dr. Sia, was the most interesting teacher that I've ever had. She's very spunky. I learned from her that psychology isn't just helping people; it's about studying the mind. My English professor, Professor Bost, was very polite and worked in an urbane environment. Due to this, I learned how to be a better writer. We had to write essays (which were tedious out of the wazoo), and the students criticized our works. It benefited me a lot because that indicated where my Achilles Heel was. Thanks, y'all!

My day at Six Flags Fiesta Texas was fun. I was paired up with some great students and counselor [Elisa]. We didn't get on the big rides like the Iron Rattler, Poltergeist, Superman, and etc. We rode a ride that spun us around until we wanted to regurgitate, Crow's Nest Ferris Wheel, Scooby-Doo Ghost Blasters, Bugs' White Water Rapids, and some other kiddie rides. We were there for nine frickin' hours--noon-nine p.m. I was excited to get back because of the excess amount of fatigue rushing through me. Well, that concludes this post. BYE!

Fiesta Texas + Friends= Memories Forever

Six Flags Fiesta Texas has always been one of my favorite places to go during the summer time, and this was my first time being at Fiesta Texas in 4 years. The Iron Rattler is by far my favorite ride. The Rattler was always my favorite ride, but the new improvements to the ride made the ride 100x more entertaining. The group I was a part of did not go to the water park at all, but instead we made sure we rode every roller coaster at Fiesta Texas. We even rode some of the rides multiple times! I rode the Superman, the Scream, the poltergeist, and The Goliath all for the first time on Tuesday. I absolutely loved riding the Superman and Scream with my group of friends with I have become really close with while being here. We took so many pictures while at Fiesta Texas. One time while we were riding the Poltergeist, and I had left my phone with Phoebe and Anna and that was a horrible idea on my part. They took so many photos on my phone, I have no idea how many they exactly took, but looking through the photos made me realize that sure I made a mistake leaving my friends with my phone but I also got to see all of the wonderful photos they left me. I will not forget this trip to Fiesta Texas because the trip was incredible.

Last night of SSA

Summer Scholars Academy allowed me to learn more about myself and experience what college is like. I learned how to extract strawberry DNA and my own DNA in my DNA class, and I also learned how to write a well written essay in a short amount of time.  I will remember my awesome roommate Phoebe, Anna, KJ, Lindsey, Dericka, Lewis, Will, Ryan, Logan, Mikaela, Lucas, NaTane, Wesley,  and everyone else that I’ve become friends with in these past two weeks. I learned that someone you have to get out of your comfort zone to make new friends because you can’t be the shy one and expect to make friends. I also learned that I work well with others and teamwork is one of my strongest strengths from the personality quiz we took for our service project.  What I experienced in these two weeks will help me in the fall because I have learned to look at life in different ways, and I learned that I can become friends with any type of person if they are willing to be friends.

Blog 5; Fiesta Texas!!!

Ok, so I've never been to Fiesta Texas before since I live like six hours away, and it was AWESOME. It was great to finally just be able to have fun with you guys and not have to worry about schoolwork. And Phoebe was a total champ for hauling all of our crap while we were on the rides. I have to thank Lucas, Phoebe, and Anna for being awesome friends and waiting inside with me when I was afraid of the rain. You guys are amazing friends. I also counted up my receipts and I spent over forty dollars on candy. And you guys thought I was joking about my candy obsession. Anyways, I had an awesome time and I am super grateful that I got to experience it with you all.

Blog 4; Oh My Goodness We're Actually Leaving!!!

We did it guys! I can't believe that we actually survived through two weeks of educational hell. I'm so glad that I met every single one of you, really. This week I overcame my reputation of failing classes and SUCCEEDED in college courses. After we had to beg for TLU to let me in, that's a pretty big deal to me. I learned that I can stretch my limits and really dedicate myself to learning if I'm in the right environment and have the right support (that's you guys). I also made some awesome memories. You guys are seriously crazy. That's probably why I relate so well with you all. ;) Our coloring/singing/piling on top of each other made class so much fun and I honestly feel like Bost was amused by our antics. I'll miss you all!

I think the Summer Scholars Academy was a good idea, for teens to learn more about college life. Also the program was a good way to make new friends and gain two college credits and plane for what colleges want to go to. I know I’ll remember the new friends I’ve made and all the teachers and RA I know and I’ll miss they all. But this experience has help me a ton, because now I know what to excepted, as such as, how much homework to do and when to do my work. I have also learned how to separate the DNA out of cell in the DNA and You class with Dr. Jonas; and how to write in the MLA form in the Do the Write thing in Prof. Bost class.

I had a great time at Fiesta Texas. In my group we didn't do what everyone else did: ride roller coasters at every turn instead we walked around the park and did a few rides throughout the day. This happens to be one of the less productive days at Fiesta Texas I have had. Usually I am the type of person that will jump on every ride that is at the park and be exhausted at the end of the day, but this time knowing that I wouldn't get in bed until twelve and that I had class in the morning so my group and I took it slow. We did do a few rides such as the gullie washer and the scooby do. One of my group members and I went on the bugs bunny several times before we quit because the line was too long. But when we left the ride we were so soaking wet that we came home that way.

At Summer Scholars Academy I learned so many things from, how to always save your work on Google drive all the way to how you can write a paper in first person.  These might be really simple things but I learned from them.  I will remember everybody in this program because they have changed my life.  The reason why I say this is because I have gotten so close to all of these people in such a short period of time and we all act as if we were one big happy family.  The experiences will affect me greatly because I know that I can write a two page paper in two days and I learned that if I stay focused I can get things done faster and of better quality. These things will definitely carry with me through the rest of high school and will help me greatly in college.
Six Flags Blog
This was my second experiences at Six Flag, but this second time is the best by far. First we rode the Superman coaster in the Spassburg area; we must have ridden this roller-coaster at least two times in a row. The Superman is a coaster that goes upside-down then dose six or seven side rolls.  Then we left for the Rockville area to ride the Scream, which sets twelve people at a time. Then we got on the ride shot up thirty stories in the air then dropped down half way, then back up then down. After that we had one last minute ride on the log ride, the ride seated my group and me and we rode down three water falls then rushed back to the meet area for check in. When check in was over we headed to Crackaxle Canyon for the Road Runner Express, the Iron Rattler and something to eat. The Road Runner was a fast and easy ride but still fun to ride. The Iron Rattler though was far better and still is the best roller-coaster we rode, the IR starts at a fast speed then climes up 181 feet then drops down 171 feet at an angle of 81 degrees at 70 mph’s, must have rode that one five time throughout the day. Then for the last few hours we rode the Scream four more time, then Goliath one time then Poltergeist two time as well; then everyone in the SSA had to left at nine o’clock for TLU.

I was not looking forward to going to Six Flags. I've been probably four times in my entire life, and the experience has always been the same. I can only ride a few rides (I had a tumor removed from my neck, blahblahblah, the rides would whip my neck around too much) and there's really nothing entertaining about following other people around all day in the oppressive heat and waiting on them to wait in lines and ride the rides and then tell you about how much fun it is.
This time, I actually enjoyed myself quite a bit more. Anna and Lucas were my buddies all day, and I think it's safe to say we all had fun together. I didn't even mind holding everyone's stuff so much-- even as the day progressed and I started having to hold souvenirs and purses and water bottles and phones-- because people seemed genuinely appreciative.
Congratulations to NaTane, who I'm pretty sure got the highest score on the Scooby Doo ride. I think I got the lowest.

BLOG FIVE: Six Flags ~

Six Flags was an absolute rave. I don’t think I’ve ever ridden a rollercoaster as tired as I was when I rode the Iron Rattler. The new coaster was absolutely exhilarating, but I wish there would have been something to hold on to on the ride. My hands were super sore after the ride because I was using all the strength in my hands to grasp the tiny knob on the barricade that secured our legs. I also rode the abnormally speedy Ferris wheel the park offered with a bunch of people. It was an interesting experience to say the least. I didn’t really ride a whole lot of rides because I had a really bad headache after the Iron Rattler, so I helped Phoebe carry everyone else’s belongings while they had a good time.  I bought some flip-flops as an impulse buy and now I’m kind of regretting it.  I’m sure I’ll find something at home to match the suckers.

What I'm Taking Away From SSA :}

One of the most important things I learned at SSA this summer is that I am the same person with everyone. Last year when I came here, I acted differently and hung out with different people than I did at school. I hadn’t matured enough, I guess, to really be comfortable with myself. This year, I didn’t have to change myself at all. The people I sat with at meals reminded me incredibly of my friends at school. It was reassuring to me to realize that I have finally settled into a personality.
I’ll definitely remember Leslie, my roommate. Like how guilty I felt when I had food poisoning and worried I was keeping her up all night with my constant puking. And how we stayed up late together working on essays and singing to Disney songs. And Anna and KJ, who are always so much fun, but also really nice for serious conversation. Shout out to Lucas, and dealing with sitting next to me in writing class… Also, how Lamonte was the first to accidentally cut himself in Printmaking, and how the rest of the class had long, nerd conversations over the printing press. And Stevie was always there to make dry little comments.
I think that what I learned personally will impact my long-term life decisions. I got more confidence about my art in Printmaking (I thought I was going to be the worst in the class and that everyone would hate me). I also definitely learned about organizing my work so I can get it all done on time!
Finally, I’d like to apologize for this stupidly long post. I love all of you guys so much!
