The biggest thing that I discovered about the writing
process was that you can write in first person and it is totally fine! I encountered
a few problems when writing the paper because it is really hard no to make my frustration
about the misconceptions apparent in every single sentence. So I took some
advice from my peer writing group and turned down the frustration in my paper. I learned that you can rewrite most of a
paper if you stay focused. Another
problem was that one of my misconceptions didn’t apply to the average color
guard so I had to think of a new misconception and write about it. What I took from
this was that it is okay if you make a mistake on a big part of your paper. All you have to do is stay focused and keep
writing and something will eventually come to you.
Last year my English teacher was so cut-throat about pointless rules like "never use first person" and "don't use 'be' verbs." I felt like she only complicated the writing process. Yeah, it never hurts to rewrite some parts of your paper if they aren't working for your paper.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised when I heard that we were allowed to write in first person because I have always told been to write in third person. Writing in first person can be easier at times but for me writing in third person has become easier for me bacause that's how they expect us to write all of our english papers.
