Upon reflecting on my recent assignment, the first thought that comes to mind is: "Yay! It's over!" Rude, I know, but I can't help being frank. I found that peer review hasn't changed in its lack of effectiveness. I still desire for the critiques to crack down a lot more on my paper. If it takes pretending I don't have feelings to be just a bit mean, that's great- disregard them. Just please, please, please actually read and critique my paper and don't just throw your hands (and my paper) up in the air in exasperation, declaring obscenities and that being the "teacher's pet" I'd "make an A any-ways." I really don't like that attitude.
Though the actual writing of the initial paper wasn't all that painful, (my speed-essay skills continue to serve me well), I was just a bit irritated by having to review the paper so many times. Yes, I understand the necessity of doing that last run through (I did have some errors), but I just didn't like it very much. This is merely an empty opinion though, since the plethora of pros for reviewing outweigh the single con of it being burdensome, bland, and out-right boring. I didn't discover anything new about the writing process itself, as I stuck with my tied and true debate methods, though I did discover that the collaboration element of review is more impactful than I expected (with Lamonte and Mr. Bost's critiques being the most helpful). I didn't have any problems except trying to improve my paper from the first draft to the final, but by asking Mr. Bost and Lamonte to tell me how I could improve the paper, I received very helpful advice.

I don't think I ever threw my hands up or your paper in the air in exasperation? I think I gave you really good feed back, and I actually took my time with the comments I put in there. Whatever.. Sorry I couldn't be more help?
ReplyDeleteThat's fine... I put that in there as a bit of exaggeration of some people's reaction to my paper, but I was looking for some really hard hits on the paper, and it's okay if you didn't find them.
DeleteI think that this sounds cocky and you shouldn't relay on others to check your wok do I yourself ok?
